Evergreens/Legends v Abbotsford Originals February 17th
Sunday’s game delivered sunshine (as promised), a cracking game of rugby and top class hosting by the home team afterwards. Well done to all of the guys who answered the rallying call for players. We even started the game with a player to spare.
Our Legends friends came up trumps again with Barry (Cummins), David, Brian (Ball), and Jim offering us great support. Thanks boys.
We started really well, pinning the Abby boys in their own half but got caught badly on a couple of breaks. Once the Abbey boys hit their stride we had our hands full – they’re big boys!
But we stuck in well. Our pack including Ian, Barry (McGrill), Barry (Cummins), David, Blair, Gary, Peter, Brian (Houle), Jim and JR acquitted themselves really well. The back line of Brett, Ben, Tommy, Sonny, Ronnie and
Brian(Ball) looked threatening at times but had to spend much of the time on the defence.
But we did manage to run in three tries. Ageless Gary Greer held his composure when he grabbed a fast ball from the back line and dived over for a try. Schweet! Sonny scored his first Evergreens try! Nice one Sonny! And not
to be outdone, Brian Ball sped after a kick ahead and was awarded a penalty try as he was impeded with a try at his mercy. Not a bad showing at all boys!!
A bunch of firsts from the game:
Barry McGrill: Big welcome to newest Evergreen – Barry. He didn’t hold back on tackling the big Abbey boys and had a terrific game as hooker. What a great addition to the club! Great stuff Barry, great to have you on board!
Sonny: Sonny pulled out all the stops to make it out to the game and was duly rewarded by scoring an excellent try. Switching from wing to centre he acquitted himself really well. No stopping you now Sonny!
Ben: Bin made his debut as an Evergreen, landing the Man of the Match award for several exciting breaks at inside centre and later fly-half. Ada boy Bin!
We lost Brett and JR through injury but ya know it’s not a real injury unless you see blood. And on that note, Tommy O’ got his head split open, blood everywhere, but (being Irish) bravery ensured that he continued. It’s
rumored that Brett and JR were seen hugging each other on the sideline, massaging each other’s wounds – Brett’s groin and JR’s lower abdomen. Looked like they were really enjoying it too! Shocking behavior! Must report this to the league –and maybe the police!
This Sunday coming up it’s our turn to travel with the Legends for our annual Shitfaced-in-Seattle, I mean, Rugby Game in Seattle. This trip was a hoot last year, so if you have half a brain, jump on this chance for a great day out! Might even get a chance to see JR and Brett make out on the bus!!
Coming up next: Sunday Feb 24th coach trip to Seattle. Lots of cheap American piss-water and oh yes,
another game of rugby!!
