I too was saddened to see the posting re Sweeney.  When I started golfing some dozen years ago Niall was one of the players who was active and was very supportive to a new hacker in the group.  He was a very nice man, a gentleman, with a great sense of humor.  Always with helpful and uplifting with comments on a golf swing, but only if asked.   I particularly enjoyed his MC'ing of our dinners where various prizes were awarded with a running commentary from Niall, all of it funny and some of it of course rude.
